KSP investigate fatal crash in Casey County

According to the preliminary investigation conducted by the Kentucky State Police (KSP), a fatal two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of US 127 and KY 70 in Casey County, Kentucky, on Sunday, March 5, 2023. The incident resulted in the tragic deaths of three individuals.

The investigation revealed that Otis Tapscott, an 85-year-old resident of Liberty, Kentucky, was traveling eastbound on KY 70 when he failed to stop at the designated stop sign at the intersection. As a result, his vehicle, a blue 1995 Ford F-150 pickup truck, collided with a red 2007 Toyota Camry driven by a 35-year-old woman from Harrodsburg, Kentucky. The woman was identified as Sarah Johnson, and she was traveling southbound on US 127.

The impact of the collision was significant, causing both vehicles to sustain extensive damage. Johnson's Toyota Camry was pushed off the roadway and came to rest in a nearby ditch. Tapscott's Ford F-150 came to rest in the intersection.

Sadly, both Otis Tapscott and Sarah Johnson, along with a 6-year-old passenger in Johnson's vehicle, did not survive the collision. The child's name has not been released at this time due to privacy concerns. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided as they become available.

The Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by the Casey County Sheriff's Office, the Liberty Fire Department, and EMS personnel. The intersection was closed for several hours while the investigation was underway, but it has since reopened to traffic.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder for all drivers to obey traffic laws and pay close attention to the road conditions at all times. The families of those involved in the collision are in our thoughts during this difficult time.
