Woman and 2 children killed in head-on crash on 15 Freeway in rainy San Bernardino County desert

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a tragic head-on collision occurred on the 15 Freeway in the rainy San Bernardino County desert, resulting in the deaths of a woman and two children. The incident took place during heavy rainfall conditions, making the roads slippery and treacherous.

The unfortunate incident involved a Kia sedan that was traveling south along the freeway. As the driver navigated through the wet conditions, the vehicle began to hydroplane, causing it to lose control. The Kia veered out of its lane and entered the northbound lanes, directly colliding with an oncoming vehicle.

Sadly, the woman behind the wheel of the Kia, as well as two children who were passengers in the vehicle, did not survive the impact of the collision. One of the deceased children was identified as a resident from Los Angeles. The other passengers in the Kia, including any additional children or adults, are yet to be identified or reported on by authorities.

The other vehicle involved in the collision sustained significant damage but the occupants were able to escape with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The CHP is currently investigating the incident and has not released any further details regarding the cause of the hydroplaning or any potential contributing factors.

This tragic accident serves as a reminder for drivers to exercise caution during wet weather conditions, especially when driving at high speeds on the freeway. It is essential to maintain a safe following distance from other vehicles, reduce speed, and avoid sudden maneuvers that could lead to loss of control. The CHP urges all motorists to prioritize safety and drive defensively during inclement weather.

Our thoughts go out to the families and loved ones affected by this unfortunate incident. The CHP will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
