NRL decides not to mark 300-game milestone of Jennings due to ‘past conduct’

The National Rugby League (NRL) is Australia's premier professional rugby league football competition. The milestone of playing 300 games in the NRL is a significant achievement for any player, as it represents over a decade of dedication and commitment to the sport. The player in question is Anthony Jennings. He made his NRL debut for the Parramatta Eels in 2004 and went on to play a total of 301 games across two stints with Parramatta and the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. However, his career was marred by several off-field incidents that raised concerns about his behavior both on and off the field.

One of the most high-profile incidents occurred in 2014 when Jennings was charged with domestic violence after an altercation with his then-partner. In 2011, he was charged with driving under the influence and was suspended for two matches. In 2015, he was suspended for one match for a breach of the NRL's code of conduct.

Despite these incidents, Jennings continued to play in the NRL until his retirement at the end of the 2018 season. However, when it came time for him to be recognized for his achievement of playing 300 games, the NRL chose not to honor him with the traditional milestone celebration.

The NRL released a statement explaining that the decision was made due to Jennings' past conduct and the impact it had on the game and its fans. The statement read, "The NRL does not condone or support any form of violence or behavior that harms individuals or the community. Mr. Jennings' past conduct falls short of the standards expected of an NRL player."
