Israel bracing for Iran to attack within the next two days: report

According to various news reports and intelligence assessments, tensions between Iran and Israel have escalated in recent days following an Israeli airstrike on an Iranian military installation in Syria's capital city of Damascus on February 13, 2023. The target of the strike was reportedly a complex that housed offices of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Hezbollah, two major military and paramilitary organizations affiliated with Iran.

Israeli officials have not officially confirmed the attack, but Iranian sources and regional media outlets have reported that several buildings were destroyed in the strike, resulting in casualties among Iranian personnel. The Syrian government, which is closely allied with Iran, condemned the attack and accused Israel of "blatant aggression" against its sovereignty.

Iranian officials have responded with threats of retaliation against Israel. Hossein Dehghan, a former IRGC commander and current military advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned that "the Zionist regime will regret its actions." Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani also condemned the strike and called on the international community to hold Israel accountable for its "act of terrorism."

Israeli military and intelligence sources have reportedly assessed that Iran is planning to retaliate against Israel within the next 48 hours. The potential targets of the Iranian response are not clear, but they could include missile or drone attacks on Israeli military bases or civilian targets. Israeli military forces have reportedly been put on high alert and have increased their presence along the border with Syria.

The escalating tensions between Iran and Israel come amidst ongoing regional instability and great power competition in the Middle East. The United States and its regional allies have expressed concern about Iran's nuclear program and its support for militant groups in the region, while Iran accuses the US and its allies of aggression and interference in its internal affairs. The situation remains fluid and could further escalate if there is another provocation or miscalculation on either side.
