Mystery as British father, 65, goes missing in Thailand during 'solo retirement holiday' as desperate family reveal he sent 'some odd messages' before going silent

David Goldthorpe, a 65-year-old man from Edinburgh, Scotland, went missing while on a solo retirement holiday in Thailand. He had been traveling in the country since early March and was expected to return home on March 27, 2023. However, he failed to board his flight from Phuket International Airport to Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar, where he was supposed to make a connecting flight back to Edinburgh.

Thai police have confirmed that Goldthorpe did not check-in for his flight and have launched an investigation into his disappearance. The Scottish Expat Society in Thailand has also joined the search efforts, sharing information and updates with the local community and the missing man's family.

Goldthorpe's daughter, Sarah, revealed that her father had been sending "some odd messages" before going silent. The nature of these messages is not clear at this time, and it is unconfirmed whether they were related to his disappearance or simply unrelated concerns.

The Scottish police have been informed of the situation and are working with Thai authorities to gather more information and locate Goldthorpe. The Scottish Consulate in Bangkok is also providing assistance to the family.

Goldthorpe is described as a white male, 178 cm (5 feet 10 inches) tall, with short grey hair and a beard. He was last seen wearing a blue polo shirt and grey trousers. He speaks English fluently and may have been carrying a small amount of cash and a credit card.

Anyone with information regarding David Goldthorpe's whereabouts is urged to contact the Thai police or the Scottish Expat Society in Thailand. The investigation into his disappearance is ongoing.

Thailand is a popular destination for retirees due to its warm climate and low cost of living. However, cases of missing persons and scams targeting tourists are not uncommon. Travelers are advised to exercise caution and stay informed about their surroundings while traveling abroad.
