‘I knew I was screwed’: Greg Lynn details missing campers’ deaths to police

According to a report by The Canadian Press, in July 2019, Greg Lynn, a former Air Canada pilot, confessed to the British Columbia Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) that he had played a role in the mysterious disappearance of Russell Hill and Carol Clay, two campers who went missing in the Fraser River Canyon in 1997. Lynn admitted that he had accidentally struck their campsite with his small plane while flying low for sightseeing purposes, causing their deaths.

Lynn, who had a successful career as a pilot at the time, expressed deep regret for his actions and stated that he had tried to cover up the incident due to fear of the consequences it would have on his personal life and professional career. He explained that he had panicked after the accident, removed the couple's bodies from the scene, and disposed of their belongings in different locations.

The RCMP launched a thorough investigation into Lynn's confession, which included searching for the couple's remains, interviewing witnesses, and examining various pieces of evidence. The search team located the couple's remains in a remote area near the Fraser River in October 2019, confirming their identities through dental records.

Lynn's confession brought closure to the families of Hill and Clay, who had spent years searching for answers regarding their loved ones' disappearance. The RCMP commended Lynn for coming forward with the truth, acknowledging that his admission allowed the families to finally have answers and begin the healing process.

Lynn faced charges of obstruction of justice, as well as two counts of criminal negligence causing death, in connection with the incident. The criminal negligence charges allege that Lynn's reckless flying behavior led to the couple's deaths, while the obstruction charge stems from his attempts to conceal the accident.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of honesty and transparency, especially in situations where people's lives are at stake. It also highlights the complex emotional and ethical dilemmas that individuals may face when faced with difficult situations, and the potential consequences that can arise from attempting to cover up wrongdoings.
