Deputy SS: Sarawak plans Sports High Performance Centre to produce future Olympians

The Sarawak government's initiative to establish a Sports High Performance Centre (SHPC) in Sarawak is aimed at identifying and nurturing talented athletes with the potential to represent Malaysia in international competitions, including the Olympics by the year 2030. This announcement was made by Deputy State Secretary Datu Hii Chang Kee during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur on July 3, 2023.

The SHPC will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities designed to support athletes in their training and development. These facilities may include a Olympic-sized swimming pool, an athletics track, a gymnasium for weightlifting and other strength training activities, as well as specialized facilities for sports such as badminton, hockey, and sepak takraw.

The centre will also provide athletes with access to advanced training methods and techniques, as well as nutrition and medical support services. This comprehensive approach will enable athletes to optimize their performance and reduce the risk of injury.

The SHPC will have a team of experienced coaches and trainers who will work closely with athletes to develop personalized training programs tailored to their individual needs and goals. These coaches will be responsible for identifying and recruiting talented young athletes from across Sarawak and providing them with the necessary support and resources to help them reach their full potential.

The SHPC will also offer educational opportunities for athletes, including scholarships and other forms of financial assistance, to help them continue their education while they train and compete. This will ensure that athletes have a solid foundation in education and are well-prepared for life beyond sports.

The ultimate goal of the SHPC is to help Sarawak become a powerhouse in sports in Malaysia by producing a minimum of ten future Olympians by the year 2030. This ambitious target reflects the Sarawak government's commitment to investing in the development of its athletes and supporting them on their journey to international success.

In conclusion, the Sarawak government's plan to establish a Sports High Performance Centre is an exciting development for sports in Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole. With its advanced facilities, experienced coaches, and comprehensive support services, the SHPC will provide talented young athletes with the resources and opportunities they need to reach their full potential and represent their country on the world stage.
