U.S. AND ALLIES GATHER AT JEDI SYMPOSIUM

The Joint Exploration and Discussion of Initiatives (JEDI) Symposium was held at Naval Air Station Sigonella in Italy from January 22 to 26, 2024. The symposium brought together representatives from the U.S. Navy and its allies to discuss initiatives related to the P-8A Poseidon, a long-range maritime patrol aircraft used by the U.S. Navy and several other countries for surveillance, reconnaissance, and strike missions.

During the symposium, participants shared lessons learned from their experiences operating the P-8A Poseidon, including best practices for maintenance, training, and mission planning. They also discussed potential areas for improvement in interoperability between different nations that operate the aircraft, such as standardizing communication protocols and developing common tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).

In addition to the P-8A Poseidon, the symposium also covered other topics related to maritime security and defense, including cybersecurity, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and underwater warfare. Participants included representatives from the U.S. Navy, as well as from several allied nations, including Australia, Canada, Japan, and South Korea.

The JEDI Symposium was an important opportunity for the U.S. Navy and its allies to collaborate on key issues related to maritime security and defense. By sharing knowledge and best practices, they were able to enhance their capabilities and better protect the global maritime environment from threats such as piracy, terrorism, and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
